We’re back with another blog post for residents of our apartments on South Congress. Austin is a city that’s best experienced through your tastebuds. Unfortunately, going out to eat all the time can add up fast. Whether you’re eating at food trucks or high-end restaurants, it’s going to be a lot more expensive than cooking for yourself. We’re not here to tell you to stop going out to eat, we just want to tell you how to save a little bit of money every time you eat out.
See, restaurants use a lot of tricks to get customers to spend more money than they originally intended to spend. The key is to know how to avoid these financial pitfalls. We’re going to tell you how to do that, and we’re going to fill you in on a few other tips and tricks you can use to save dollars and dimes next time you go out to eat.
Check out the list of tips below, and remember to share this post with your friends at your community of South Congress apartments!
Tip #1 — Skip the drinks
Obviously, skipping any aspect of the meal will save you money. Drinks save you the most money though, because restaurants jack up drink prices more than they do with any other item on the menu. We love drinks as much as the next person, but it’s just not worth it to buy drinks when they’re marked up this much. Once you see how much you can save by skipping drinks while you’re out to eat, you’ll never order them again!
Tip #2 — Order off the appetizer menu
Not only does the appetizer menu have all the best food like nachos, buffalo wings and tater tots, it also has better prices than the entree menu. The appetizer menu also has larger portions than the appetizer menu, so those are three reasons right there why you should always check the appetizer menu before you move onto the entrees.
Tip #3 — Remember that happy hour is good for more than just drinks
If you’ve been meaning to try out a new restaurant, don’t go for dinner — go for happy hour. If you can’t make it for happy hour, go for lunch. Basically, we’re telling you to do whatever you can to avoid dinner because that’s the most expensive meal of the day. You can usually find some pretty good deals on appetizers during happy hour, so leave work early and time your meal just right to get the best prices.
TIp #4 — Get it to go
You don’t have to sit in the restaurant to enjoy the restaurant’s food! If you get your food to go, you can avoid paying for drinks, refills, and tips. All you have to do is pay for the food that you ordered! Sure, you won’t get to experience the ambiance of the restaurant, but your food will taste just as good in your South Congress apartment.
